Dr. Esther Benenson, Executive Director of the Flushing Manors is an established leader in the health care field for over five decades. Dr. Benenson has a deep dedication to the health care needs of our patients and to the dignity of the human spirit.
The Pavilion was erected in memory of her husband, Dr. William O. Benenson, who was a practicing physician in Flushing for over 60 years. His philosophy was to ensure a high quality of life for all individuals under his care.
At the pavilion, we stress the importance of family involvement because it is the true source of strength and stability in one's life...a tie that brings us all together as a team, enhancing the quality of life for all patients in our care.
Here in our facility, the entire staff have created an environment of dignity, respect and independence for all residents and their families.
Dr. Wm. O. Benenson Rehabilitation Pavilion has patient floors designated for specific needs. These specific floors include:
Short Term Rehab Unit-The dedicated professionals, using state-of-the-art equipment in a nurturing environment, promote recovery and independence following an illness, accident or hospital stay. Comprehensive, multidisciplinary teams create individualized programs to meet each patient's long or short-term needs.
Ventilator Unit-The certified ventilator-dependent unit is led by a pulmonologist and a primary care physician, in coordination with respiratory therapists, ventilator trained nurses and certified social workers. Our primary goal is to wean the patient from the respirator and expedite discharge. Each patient receives an individualized treatment plan formulated by our team of professionals.
Alzheimer's/Dementia Unit-The Alzheimer's/Dementia Unit provides resident's with an opportunity to live meaningful lives without the use of restraints or psychotropic medications. Staff is selected for their understanding and expertise with geriatric residents with cognitive impairments.
Joint Replacement Program-The Pavilion is one of the leading facilities in joint replacement rehabilitation. Comprehensive care plans are formulated by our medical and nursing teams, on an individual basis, to meet the specific needs of each patient. Pain management is closely monitored to maximize active participation in rehabilitation programs. State-of-the-art equipment and adaptive devices help speed the recovery process. To ensure proper healing and joint mobility, patients are instructed in safe and appropriate techniques regarding daily-living activities. A discharge plan is designed to make sure each patient has a successful transition upon leaving the facility.
